Abstract

Tonicum is a preparation of ingredients to strengthen the body or increase energy. Basil leaves (Ocimum basilicum L.) contain flavonoid compounds, alkaloids and essential oils. This study was to determine the tonic effect and find out the most effective dose of basil leaf extract in male white mice (Mus musculus). The extraction method of basil leaf powder in this study used maceration with 70% ethanol solvent. Test tonic activity using natatory exhaustion and test gelantung with 25 mice. The parameters used are time depending on mice, swimming time and % immobility time. Negative control Na CMC 0.5%, positive control caffeine 100 mg/Kg BB, basil leaf extract 80 mg/kgBB, basil leaf extract 160 mg/kgBB, basil leaf extract 320 mg/kgBB. Tonicum effect data obtained from the time difference before administration (T1) and after administration (T2) were statistically analyzed using One-way ANOVA. Basil leaf extract (Ocimum basilicum L.) dose 80 mg/kgBB, dose 160 mg/kgBB, dose 320 mg/kgBB has tonic activity. EEDK 320 mg/kgBB with three parameters had the most effective tonic activity compared to other treatment groups Keywords : tonicum, basil extract, natatory exhaustion, test gelantung
