Abstract

The rapid industrial increase in Indonesia both qualitatively and quantitatively also occurred in the chemical industry. One of the chemicals that is needed in the chemical industry is acetone. Acetone is also known as dimethyl ketone, 2-propanone, or propan-2-one. Acetone is a colorless and flammable liquid compound. Acetone is widely used in the cellulose acetate, rubber, cosmetic, adhesive, varnish, leather tanning industries, manufacture of lubricating oils, paints, fibers, plastics, and in the extraction process as well as a raw material for the manufacture of methyl isobutyl ketone. With the linear regression equation above, it can be estimated that the demand for acetone in Indonesia is 2,321,386.1 tons/year. So that this factory was established with a capacity of 25,000 tons/year to fulfill part of the needs in Indonesia. The process of making acetone is generally divided into several groups, one of which is the propylene oxidation process. The process of oxidation of propylene to acetone can take place at temperatures between 150-160°C and a pressure of 1 atm. The catalyst used is CuH3 (PMO10V2O40). In this process, the products of the reaction consist of acetone, acrolein and CO2. CH2 = CHCH3 + ½ O2 → C3H6O At this plant, a break even point of 44.50% was obtained, while a shut down point was obtained of 22.49%. Liquid acetone plant from propylene and oxygen with a propylene oxidation process has a capacity of 25,000 tons/year. Based on the results of the feasibility analysis from a technical and economic perspective, it can be concluded that this factory is feasible to establish
