Abstract

Essential oils obtained from basil plants (Ocimum basilicum .L) and zodia (Evodia sauveolen, scheff) contain antibacterials known to basil plants have the highest compound components Z-Citral efficacious as antimicrobials and zodia plants that have the highest component of Evodone compound which has antibacterial activity with mechanisms interfere with the permeability of bacterial cell membranes and make the cell lysate. The purpose of this study was to determine the main compounds that have antibacterial activity of essential oils of basil and zodia and its activity as antibacterial to Salmonella typhi ATCC 13311. The research method used to know the antibacterial activity is the diffusion method which aims to know the inhibition power of the combination of essential oil of basil leaf and zodia after the diffusion test, the data obtained then processed using SPSS to find out whether the data obtained from the diffusion method has been normal distributed as well knowing the concentration of the essential oils of basil and zodia leaves that have the greatest inhibitory power which then dilution test to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration or KHM and minimum killing concentration or KBM from the combination of essential oils of basil and zodia leaves. The results obtained from the diffusion method showed that the combination of essential oil of basil leaf and zodia with a 2: 1 ratio of 50 mL of volatile oil of zodia leaf and 25 mL of basil leaf oil had an inhibitory power of 18.13%. Dilution test results can not determine KHM because the solution of the essential oil is milky white. KBM obtained from the dilution test is 25%. Key words: Antibacterial activity, kemangi, zodia essential oil.
