Abstract
BAGASKARA, C., 2022, ON A COMPARISON OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ETHANOL EXTRACT OF RED DRAGON SKIN (hylocereus polyrhizus) AND WHITE DRAGON FRUIT SKIN (hylocereus undatus) DECREASE IN BLOOD SUGAR MICE OF SWISS WEBSTER MALE INDUCED ALOKSAN, THESIS, FACULTY OF PHARMACY, UNIVERSITAS SETIA BUDI SURAKARTA. Hyperglycemia is characterized by elevated blood glucose levels. Dragon fruit peels contain flavonoid compounds that have hypoglycemic activity by improving insulin sensitivity. The goal of this study were to examine the efficacy of ethanol extracts of red and white dragon fruit peels in lowering blood glucose levels in Swiss Webster hyperglycemic male mice and to identify the effective dose. This study used the maceration method with a 70% ethanol solvent. The test animals used 40 male white mice which were divided into 8 groups, namely the 0.5% CMC group, the metformin group, and the dragon fruit peel ethanol extract group with 3 dose variations (dose 62.5 mg/kg BB, 125 mg/kg BB, 250 mg/kg BB). Test animals were made hyperglycemia by being given aloksan induction and measured blood glucose levels of mice on the 0th, 3rd, 10th, 17th days with a Point of Care Test (POCT). Red dragon fruit peel extract and white dragon fruit peel extract with doses of 62.5 mg/kg BW, 125 mg/kg BW, and 250 mg/kg BW can have the effect of reducing blood sugar levels in mice. Extract from red dragon fruit peel is more effective in lowering blood sugar levels than extract from white dragon fruit peel.
