Abstract

Epilepsy is a disorder of the balance between excitation and inhibition in the brain, causing uncontrolled excitability. This research is to evaluate the use of anti-epilepsy medicines on patients episodic symptoms of psychosis in installation inpatient mental hospital of surakarta in 2015 compared with Consensus Guedelines on the Management of Epilepsy 2010. This research was descriptive non experimental and obtained retrospectively. Data collection were obtained from medical records which fullfill match the inclusion criterias of age with a range of 18-65 years in the diagnosis of epilepsy with episodic symptoms of psychosis, Inpatients during 2015 and patients who acquire anti-epileptic drugs. Using purposive sampling, with a sample size of 55 patients. Analysis of the data includes the use of this class of drugs, the use of combinations of drugs and evaluation of the use of drug therapy. The result medication usage showed the use Anticholinergic class as much as 23.94%, class Butirofenon as much as 13.56%, Benzioxazol class 12.23%, class of hydantoins and barbiturates amounted to 11.97% and 8.51%. Drug combination Barbiturates, hydantoins 56%. The evaluation result revealed 100% in accordance with the guidelines, but there is not yet appropriate dose, dose inaccuracy still found that both doses of less or excessive doses.
