Abstract

Acne vulgaris is a skin problem found in almost every human being in adolescence to adulthood with varying degrees of severity. The main cause of acne vulgaris is a bacteria. One of the bacteria that causes acne vulgaris is Staphylococcus aureus. Currently, many circulating anti-acne gel containing antibacterial substances. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of three brands of anti-acne gel against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. In this research, the methodology used is diffusion method with cup-plate technique. Samples used are anti acne gel with brand “X”, “Y”, “Z” with clindamycin positive control and aqudest negative control. All samples were diluted 50%. All diffusion treatments were incubated for 24 hours at 37○C to determine the inhibit zone. Data analysis used the One-Way Anova statistical test, there were differences of the three samples. Resistor zones of each sample are different. The results showed that the trials of these gel samples could inhibit the activity of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The effectiveness obtained is from the sample "X" that showing the widest clear zone among other test samples. Keywords: Staphylococcus aureus, diffusion, anti acne
