Abstract
Iler leaf (Coleus atropurpureus Benth.) has antibacterial activity to Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Chemical compounds that have antibacterial activity are alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins and saponins. Gel preparations are a practical and easy to use dosage form in wound healing treatment due to bacterial infections. This research is aimed to determine the ability of ethanol extract gel leaf iler to heal wounds of infection on rabbit's back caused by Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Ethanol extract of iler leaves was made by remaceration method with 96% ethanol solvent. The iler leaf extract gel was made in three concentrations of formulas 5%, 10%, and 15%. The physical properties of the gel were tested for physical quality and stability test for freeze thaw method. The data obtained were analyzed by ANOVA two way with a significance value P < 0.05. Observation of healing time was carried out by observing the duration of healing of the infection after gel administration, marked by loss of pus and erythema. The results showed a 15% concentration of gel formula was most effective in curing infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus with a healing time of 7 - 8 days but did not meet good physical quality, while the concentration of 5% and 10% gel formulas each had a healing time of 15 days and 11 days and have good physical quality. The healing time has a real difference from the three formulas. Key words : Iler leaf (Coleus atropurpureus Benth.), Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, gel, antibacterial, infection.
