Abstract

ALFONSIN DE RODRIQUES SANDO, 2024, FORMULATION AND PHYSICAL QUALITY TEST OF GEL PREPARATIONS OF ETHANOLIC EXTRACT OF KATUK LEAF (S ccauropus androgynus (L.) Merr.) WITH XANTHAN GUM CONCENTRATION VARIATIONS, THESIS, FACULTY OF PHARMACY, UNIVERSITAS SETIA BUDI, SURAKARTA, Supervised by Dr. Drs. Supriyadi, M.Si and apt. Ghani Nurfiana Fadma Sari, M. Farm. Gel is one of the semi-solid preparations that has the advantage of a fairly high water content so that it provides cool moisture and provides a comfortable feeling on the skin. One of the plants could be developed into gel preparations was katuk leaves (Sauropus androgynus (L.) Merr.). This study aimed to formulate a gel preparation with ethanol extract of katuk leaves with a ratio of xanthan gum concentrations of 0.8%, 1%, 1.2% and to conduct physical quality tests of gel preparations that meet standards. Extraction of katuk leaf was carried out by 96% ethanol solvent using maceration method. Then it was formulated into the gel form of 9% katuk leaf extract into 4 formulas, namely negative control or base, and three variations of xanthan gum concentration formula, namely 0.8%; 1%; and 1.2%. All formulas were tested for physical quality consisting of organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, viscosity and stability. The results of this study indicated that the ethanol extract of katuk leaves could be formulated in the form of a gel preparation and can meet the physical quality test requirements. The katuk leaf ethanol extract gel preparation formula that has the best physical quality was the formula that used 1% xanthan gum. Gel adalah salah satu sediaan semi solid yang memiliki kelebihan berupa kandungan air yang cukup tinggi sehingga memberikan kelembaban yang bersifat dingin dan memberikan rasa nyaman pada kulit. Salah satu tanaman yang dapat dikembangkan sebagai gel adalah daun katuk (Sauropus androgynus (L.) Merr.). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memformulasikan sediaan gel ekstrak etanol daun katuk dengan variasi konsentrasi xanthan gum dan melakukan uji mutu fisik sediaan gel. Ekstraksi daun katuk dilakukan dengan metode maserasi pelarut etanol 96%. Kemudian diformulasikan dalam bentuk gel ekstrak daun katuk 9% ke dalam 4 formula yaitu kontrol negatif atau basis, dan tiga formula variasi konsentrasi xanthan gum 0,8%; 1%; dan 1,2%. Seluruh formula diuji mutu fisik, meliputi uji organoleptik, homogenitas, pH, daya sebar, viskositas, dan stabilitas. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol daun katuk dapat diformulasikan dalam bentuk sediaan gel yang memenuhi syarat uji mutu fisik. Formula sediaan gel ekstrak etanol daun katuk yang memiliki mutu fisik yang paling baik adalah formula yang menggunakan xanthan gum 1%.
