Abstract

Kepundung leaf (Baccaurea racemosa Muell. Arg) effective to treat diarrhea. It contained saponin, flavonoid, tannin, and alkaloid. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of extract and fractions of kepundung leaf as an antibacterial against Escherichia coli. Kepundung leaf was extracted using maceration method using ethanol 70% then it fractionated by n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water. The antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 was tested by the diffusion method. The inhibition zone diameter was measured using concentrations of 50%, 25% and 12.5%. Cotrimoxazole was used as positive control was and DMSO 1% was used as negative control. The study showed that kepundung leaf extract had antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922. The inhibitory zone diameter of extract at 12,5%, 25%, and 50% was 17,0 mm; 16,3 mm; 15,7 mm. Ethyl acetate fraction had an average of inhibitory zone diameter at 12,5%, 25%, and 50% was 8,0 mm; 23,0 mm; 26,3 mm. The most effective of antibacterial antiactivity was ethyl acetate fraction of kepundung leaf conteined flavonoids and saponins. Keywords: Kepundung leaf (Baccaurea racemosa Muell.
