Abstract

Vitamin E is widely used in dermatology research as a topical preparation , therefore in this study vitamin E is formulated as a antioxidants topical gel because it gives comfort in the skin, so it is preferred by the public . Based on Gallardo research (2005) vitamin E gel with carbopol 940 and tween 80 bases, have excellent physical characters and have good release methode, therefore, this study aims are to get the optimum vitamin E gel formula by using carbopol 940 and tween 80 gelling agent base on factorial design methode. Vitamin E gel that have 5μg /mL in concentration made by mixing soluble vitamin E base gel with tween 80 , then we made four formula by factorial design and we continue to tested the physical quality ( organoleptic , viscosity , dispersive power and also sticking power ) and antioxidant activity on 2nd to 42nd day. Determination of antioxidant activity by the immersion of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) method based on the inhibition obtained(IC50). Optimum formula predictions generate using Expert® Design software 7.1.5 trial version then we continue to performed experiments phase and for the test results of physical properties and antioxidant activities we analyzed statisticaly using T-test methods. The results showed that the mixed concentration of carbopol tween 80 and 940 have an influence on the physical stability and antioxidant activity of vitamin Egel based. Based on the Superimposed Counter plot we found optimum formula gel vitamin E that are 2.67% of Tween 80 and 2 % of Carbopol 940.
