Abstract

Epilepsy is a disorder of the balance between excitation and inhibition in the brain, causing uncontrolled excitability. This study aimed to describe the profile of patients and patterns of use of anti-epileptic drugs in Installation Inpatient RSJD Dr Zainudin Arif Surakarta 2015. This research was descriptive non experimental and obtained retrospectively. Subjects in this study is a case that shows the pediatric age group (18 - 65 years) in the Installation Inpatient RSJD Dr. Arif Zainudin of Surakarta in 2015 study that met the inclusion criteria. Collection of data sources to analyze patterns of use of anti-epileptic drugs obtained from medical records and medication usage data. The data were analyzed descriptively using purposive sampling technique, with a sample size of 57 patients. Description of the patient profile is the most adult patients with age 25-40 years was 49%, male gender (67%) more than women (33%), and the type of epileptic by type of seizures is generalized tonic clonic (62 %). Patterns in the use of anti-epileptic drugs on adult patient in Installation Inpatient RSJD Dr. Arif Zainudin of Surakarta mostly in the form of polytherapy 39 kasus (68,43%), whereas monotherapy 13 kasus (22,8%). Use of phenytoin monotherapy at most that 9 kasus (15,79%) and polytherapy most that phenytoin- phenobarbital 27 kasus (47,37%). Keyword : Epilepsy, anti-epileptic drugs Inpatient, RSJD Surakarta
