Abstract
Liver damage covers structural disorder or dysfunction in the organ itself. Compound which is product of chemical reactions in cells are highly reactive and accelerate liver damage is free radical. Palm sugar is one of the ingredients that have activity as an antioxidant and has been shown by in vitro study. The purpose of this study is to investigate the hepatoprotective activity based on the levels of ALT, AST and total cholesterol and to know antioxidant activity of SOD and GPX also decreased level of MDA of palm sugar. The subject in this study was male rats as many as 25 animals were divided into 5 groups: normal group, negative control, positive control, group of palm sugar dose of 200 mg/kg BB and group of dose 400 mg/kg BB, each group consists of 5 animals. All experiments groups except normal group, induced by for making the animals liver in damaged condition. The result shown that (1) palm sugar dose 200 mg/kg BB and 400 mg/kg BB could increase SOD and GPx enzymes in the liver of the animalswere induced with ; (2) palm sugar dose 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg could reducethe levels of ALT, AST and total cholesterol at the animal that induced by ; (3) palm sugar dose 200 mg/kg BB and 400 mg/kg BB could protect the liver from the damage caused by based on histopathologic analysis. Keywords: palm sugar powder, hepatoprotective experiment, antioxidant experiment
