Abstract

Ketapang and garlic bulb plants are one of the plants that can overcome infectious diseases caused by bacteria. Ketapang leaves contain flavonoid compounds, tannins and saponins, while garlic contains essential oils, flavonoids, saponins and tannins. This study aims to examine the antibacterial activity of ketapang leaf extract combination (Terminalia catappa L) and garlic (Allium sativum L.) against Shigella dysenteriae bacteria. Ketapang and garlic leaf powder was extracted by maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent. Testing of Shigella dysenteriae bacteria using diffusion method to know the extract of ketapang leaves and garlic singles and the most active combination then continued with dilution method to know Minimum Kill Ketensi concentration of ketapang and garlic leaf sole and the most active combination. The concentrations used in the diffusion method were 30%, 50%, 70%, (30%: 70%), (70%: 30%) and (50%: 50%) and the dilution method used 100% concentration, 50% ; 25%; 12.5%; 6.25%; 3.12%; 1.56%; 0.78%; 0.39%; 0.19%. The results showed that ketanite and garlic ethanol extract had antibacterial activity against ketapang and garlic leaves at concentration 70%: 30%. The mean inhibitory diameter of single and combination of garlic leaves and garlic extract was single garlic concentration (30%) 10.3 mm, concentration (50%) 13.3 mm, concentration (70%) 14,3 and ketapang concentration (30%) 18,3mm, concentration (50%) 26,3 mm, concentration (70%) 27,3 mm and combination of ketapanang and garlic leaves (30%: 70%) 24mm, concentration (70%: 30% ) 28.6 mm and concentration (50%: 50%) 26 mm. The most active combination of ketapang and garlic leaf extracts against Shigella dysenteriae is a combination of ketapang and garlic leaves (70%: 30%) with Minumum Kill Concentration of 12.5%.
