Abstract

Pucuk merah (Syzygium myrtifolium Walp.) is one ornamental plants which is beneficial sets as antibacterial. Chemical content of pucuk merah that serves as antibacterial is class of alkaloids, triterpenoid, steroid, saponin, phenolic, flavonoid, and essential oil. The purpose of this study is test antibacterial activity of fraction n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water from extract green leaf plants of pucuk merah (Syzygium myrtifolium Walp.) against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Green leaves of pucuk merah are extracted in maceration with ethanol 96% then it was fractionated by n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water. Extracts and fractions were used for antibacterial tests by diffusion and dilution methods with concentrations 20%, 10%, 5%, 2,5%, 1,25%. The results of this research indicate that extract etanolik, n-hexane fraction, the fraction of water, ethyl acetate fraction has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 with the most active activity at concentration 20%. Fraction of ethyl acetate has the most effective antibacterial activity with a diameter drag zone is 21.333 mm, and the KBM value is 5%
