Abstract

Inflammatory is a response toward damaged tissue due to several harm stimulations either chemicals or mechanics, and infection from bacteria or virus. Jatropha multifida L. stem contains of alkaloid, saponin, tanin and flavonoid. The purpose of this research is to know the antiinflammatory effect of iodine stem extract on white wistar male rat which induced by carragenine and to know how much doses of iodine stem extract have the most effective antiinflammatory effect. Iodine stem (Jatropha multifida L.) was extracted by maceration method using ethanol 96%. The antiinflammatory effect testing was performed on 25 rats with artificial udem method on rat’s feet which induced by carragenine 1%. The test animals were divided into 5 groups, group I was given CMC 1%, group II was given diclofenac sodium 4,5 mg/kg BW, group III was given iodine stem extract 200 mg/kg BW, group IV was given iodine stem extract 400 mg/kg BW, group V was given iodine stem extract 800 mg/kg BW. The rats were left for 1 hour and then induced by carragenine 1% on rat’s feet intraplantarly. The volume of the rat’s feet were measured at 1 to 5 hours after the induction of carragenine. Udem volume data to time data is made to calculate AUC and antiinflammatory power %, then the obtained data were analyzed using the Student- Newman- Keulsa test The result showed that the iodine stem extract was able to provide antiinflammatory effect on white wistar male rat which induced by carragenine. The most effective dose of iodine stem extract as antiinflammatory was 200 mg/kg BB rats. Keywords: antiinflammatory, iodine stem extract, carragenine, edema.
