Abstract

Examination at a clinical laboratory is highly varied among others hematology and clinical chemistry. One of clinical chemistry examination is uric acid. There is a time when samples are not directly worked on. Samples that experience delays may influence examination results. According to the Regulation of the Minister of Health serum samples can be stored under the temperature of 4º C for 5 days because on that temperature the level of uric acid in 4°C stored serum stays intact. The aim of this research is to figure out the difference between the examinations results of uric acid levels with the samples of fresh serum and stored serum under the temperature of 4° C. This scientific research is compiled based on the experimental data conducted in the Clinical Laboratory of Setia Budi University towards 30 samples of fresh serum and stored serum for 5 days under the temperature of 4°C and supported by published literatures. This examination on the levels of uric acid was done using TBHBA method (2,4,6-tri bromhydroxyl benzoid acid). The results of examination indicated elevated levels after the serum are being stored for 5 days under the temperature of 4°C. Statistical test Paired sample T Test resulted p= 0,000, which shows that there is a significant difference between the levels of uric acid on fresh serum and stored serum under the temperature of 4°C.
