Abstract
Staphylococcus aureus is responsible for 80% of suppurative disease, with the surface of the skin as a natural habitat. The spread of the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus is most often passed from hand to hand, so it needs an antiseptic hand gel as solutional innovation for society. Some studies suggest the use of hand sanitizer proven effective in reducing gastrointestinal diseases and respiratory infections due to bacteria. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of essential oils gel lime leaves (Citrus hystrix DC.) Is efficacious as an antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Preparation of the gel with the concentration of essential oil of kaffir lime leaves is 2%, 4% and 8%, and then tested the stability of the gel. The method used in this research is diffusion. The data obtained were processed with statistical analysis Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) with a one-track method, so the significance of the results obtained from these data. The results of the diffusion test with Kirby-Bauer method concentration of 2% effectively kill Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 by inhibition of 13mm ± 0.56. Based on the activity test has been done, gel essential oil of kaffir lime leaves (Citrus hystrix DC.) Were able to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Keywords: Antibacterial, Staphylococcus aureus, Gel, Essential Oil, Citrus hystrix DC.
