Abstract
Various types of medicinal plants are known and widely used is turmeric. One of the active compounds that have antibacterial activity is curcumin. This study aims to determine the activity of antibacterial gel rhizome turmeric extract on the growth of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 in vivo. Turmeric powder is macerated with 70% ethanol, viscous extract is made gel preparation for antibacterial tested on rabbit backs infected with Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 bacteria. Gel concentration 0.5%, 1%, 2%, 5%, positive control (Gentamicin 0.1 %), negative control. Physical quality test and gel stability were performed, the test result was statistically analyzed using two way (ANOVA) method. Observation of healing of rabbits seen from the length of time healing with loss of erythema, pus, scab, wound and accompanied by the growth of rabbit fur. Based on the research conducted, the preparation of effective turmeric rhizome gel extract has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 bacteria at 5% concentration.
