Abstract

Schizophrenia is a psychiatric disorder which is very complex. This disease illustrate heterogeneous syndrome with bizarre and disorganized behavior, delusion, hallucination, and decrease of psychosocial function. Generally, schizophrenia treatment conducted by biologic therapy using antipsychotic drugs and long-term. Antipsychotic can also be used in combination with various other drug classes, such as mood stabilizer, antidepressant and antianxiety. This study was aimed to determine the usage pattern and antidepressant suitability in schizophrenic patients at Psychiatric Hospital Surakarta in 2013. This research was conducted by descriptive design and data collection retrospectively through medical record. Data were analyzed descriptively to determine patient profile and usage profile of antidepressant drugs, then analytic research was conducted to determine suitability of antidepressant drugs usage in schizophrenic patients with formulary of Psychiatric Hospital Surakarta and Texas Medication Algorithm Project Procedural Manual Schizophrenia Treatment Algorithms . Based on research results, obtained data that antidepressant which used in schizophrenic patients treatment were tricyclic as 80%, SSRI as 13%, and tetrasiklik as 7%. Suitability of antidepressants usage with formulary of Psychiatric Hospital Surakarta was 23%. Suitability of antidepressants usage with Texas Medication Algorithm Project Procedural Manual Schizophrenia Treatment Algorithms was 87%.
