Abstract

Total cholesterol is an examination to determine the level of cholesterol contained in blood including all lypoprotein particles in body. CHOD-PAP method using venous blood serum and strip test method using capilary blood become the methods frequently used in total cholesterol examination. The difference of sample types, method and examination instruments and also quality control (QC) can influence the level of examination results accuracy. This study is aimed to know whether the difference is existed on total cholesterol level examination results using CHOD-PAP method and strip test method. Type of this study was analytic observational using cross sectional approach and simple random sampling technique of 30 samples. There obtained primary data of CHOD-PAP method laboratory examination results and POCT examination results using strip test method, and then there conducted normality test on the total cholesterol level using Kolmogorov Smirnov and continued with statistic test using t-test independent sample in SPSS 17.0. The measurement of cholesterol level using strip test method obtaining higher result average that was of 221.13 mg/dL compared with the results using CHOD-PAP method, that was of 177.93 mg/dL. The conclusion of this study from the statistic test obtaining tcount of -5.633 < ttable (2.000) with p < 0.05. With the probability of 0.000 < 0.05, then H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. It means that there is significant difference on the results of total cholesterol level examination using method Cholesterol Oxidase Phenol Aminoantipyrin (CHODPAP) and strip test method.
