Abstract

Antioxidants are substances that can fight the harmful effects of free radicals that are formed as a result of oxidative metabolism, which is the result of chemical reactions and metabolic processes that occur in the body. Antioxidants from nature are considered safer than synthetic antioxidants. Antioxidants from nature can be obtained from the Anacardiaceae family plant. The purpose of this study was to determine the antioxidant activity of several Anacardiaceae family plants including cashew, indian ash tree, wild mango, bhilawa, gandaria, and sumac; determine which plants have the greatest antioxidant potential; and detemine the stability of topical formulations from the natural ingredients of the Anacardiaceae family of plants. The testing method is done by DPPH method and IC50 value. The stronger antioxidant activity can be found by the smaller the IC50 value. Plants of the Anacardiaceae family can be formulated into topical formulation including emulgel from cashew extract, gel from wild mango extract, and gel from indian ash tree extract. The method in this literature review is done by determining the formulation of the problem, searching for literature, evaluating data, making summaries, then combining it into one complete scientific story. From the results of the review results obtained that the plants of the Anacardiaceae family have the potential for antioxidant activity and the greatest potential is the ethanol-water fraction of cashew leaves with IC50 values of 0.26 ppm. As for the topical preparations of the most stable plant family Anacardiaceae is the gel formula from indian ash tree extract. Key word : Antioxidant, Plant From Anacardiaceae Family, Topical Formulation
