Abstract

Dates are one type of fruit that is often consumed by the community which is one type of fruit that has strong antioxidants because it contains phenolic and flavonoid compounds that can ward off free radicals. The purpose of this study was to determine the antioxidant content which was more effective than the ethanol extract of Ajwa dates and the ethanol extract of deglet noor dates. Ethanol extract of ajwa dates and deglet noor were obtained by maceration method using 96% ethanol as solvent. Determination of antioxidant activity was carried out using the DPPH method using a spectrophotometer with a wavelength of 516 nm and calculating the IC50 of each sample. The results showed that the ethanolic extract of Ajwa and Deglet noor dates had antioxidant activity, where the ethanolic extract of Ajwa Dates had an IC50 result of 30,479 which was included in the very strong category, and the ethanolic extract of Deglet noor dates had an IC50 result of 50.911 which was included in the strong category.
