Abstract

The rapid development of social media can influence youth development , one of which is Instagram, which occupies the top position as a social media platform, which shows a lot of narcissism side. One factor contributing to narcissistic predisposition is self-control. The objective of research was to find out the relationship between self-control and narcissistic predisposition in Instagram social media users in SMA Negeri 7 Surakarta. This research employed a quantitative method with cluster random sampling being the sampling technique. The subject of research was the 12th Social Science graders, consisting of 62 students. The measuring instrument used in this research is : self-control and Narcissistic Personality Inventory. Hypothesis proposed was that there is a negative relationship between self-control and narcissistic predisposition. The method of analyzing data employed was Karl Pearson’s Product Moment correlation with SPSS 21.0 for windows help. The result of analysis showed coefficient of correlation rxy = - 0.358 with p = 0.04 (p < 0.05). Hypothesis proposed in this research was supported by the existence of a negative significant relationship between self-control and narcissistic predisposition.
