Abstract

Liver cancer is a type of disease whose cases are increasing in the world. This disease has a percentage of 9.5% of the causes of death worldwide and has a percentage of 10.1% of the most recent cases experienced. Research to get cancer treatments from natural ingredients is increasing. Akar kuning (Arcangelisia flava (L.) Merr.) have long been used empirically to treat various diseases such as hepatitis, fever, infections, digestive disorders, intestinal worms, sprue, even believed to have the potential for anticancer therapy. One of the akar kuning content which is suspected to have anticancer activity is berberine alkaloid compound. This study aims to determine the anticancer activity and selectivity of akar kuning stem ethanol extracts against HepG2 liver cancer cell culture. This research includes extraction of akar kuning stem using remaseration method with 70% ethanol solvent. The anticancer activity test of akar kuning stem ethanol extract against HepG2 cells was performed using the MTT assay method with concentration series (2000; 1000; 500; 250; 125) µg/ml and IC50 values were calculated. using linear regression. The selectivity index was used to determine the selectivity of akar kuning stem ethanol extracts that were known by calculating the IC50 value of Vero cells compared to IC50 of HepG2 cells. The results of the anticancer activity test of akar kuning stem ethanol extract showed a fairly active activity against HepG2 cells have IC50 327.190 µg/ml and selectivity index 1.41.
