Abstract
Wuluh star fruit is known to contain flavonoids, tannins and saponins that are useful as antifungals. Candida albicans is a normal flora on the skin that can cause dandruff if it grows excessively. Wuluh star fruit can not directly kill the fungus, therefore wuluh star fruit extracts first then formulated into a preparation of anti-dandruff shampoo. This study aims to determine the formulation of shampoo from wuluh starfruit extract as an anti-dandruff and to determine the physical properties of the preparation formula, as well as to find out the formula which has the potential to have antifungal activity against Candida albicans. Wuluh star fruit was extracted by maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent. Ethanol extract of wuluh star fruit was formulated into 3 shampoo preparation formulas with each concentration difference. Shampoo preparations from each formula were tested for organoleptic, pH, viscosity, high foam, and antifungal activity against Candida albicans. This study uses an experimental method and uses the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method in testing the identification of extract chemical compounds, topical dosage formulations and antifungal activity tests. Wuluh star fruit extract can be made into a shampoo preparation with good physical quality. Shampoo formulation from star fruit extract with the highest concentration has the most active antifungal activity potential against the fungus Candida albicans ATCC 10231.
