Abstract

Solving problems occurring at workplace is challenging. Process to solve problems leads to new problems which demand solution. Problem solving is an essential skill that a person has to possess. Good problem solving is not only greatly motivating but also regulating emotion, and this will help him or her concentrate on finding solution. This study also aims investigating the influence of emotional intelligence on problem solving skill of medical professionals in PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital in Surakarta. Purposive sampling technique was applied in this research. A total of 100 medical professionals were used as samples. Data were obtained using questionnaires. Data were analyzed using qualitative analysis method and measured using simple linear regression analysis with SPSS version 21 for Windows. The research results demonstrate that the variable of emotional intelligence puts a significant effect on problem solving skill of medical professionals in PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital in Surakarta with tcount of 4.992 and significance level of p = 0.000 (< 0.005). The determination coefficient indicates that 20.3% of problem solving skill of medical professionals in PKU Muhammadiyah in Surakarta is attributable to emotional intelligence while 79.7% is determined by other factors.
